On March 31 to April 1, Li  Xi, Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, inspected the city of Shantou.  During the period, Li Xi inspected China Merchants Port's Shantou Port Guang Ao Port Area.

On the morning of April 1, Li Xi inspected the progress of the terminal construction in the Guangao Port Area of Shantou Port and heard a report on its resumption of work and production as well as the construction plan. The Head of  China Merchants Port's Shantou Port reported that the container throughput rose against the market trend during the epidemic. Li Xi fully acknowledged the achievements made by China Merchants Port in Shantou Port and expressed his active support for the project. Li Xi emphasized that, under the premise of cautious prevention and control of the epidemic in the port area, the construction of the port should be accelerated, the terminal operation efficiency should be significantly enhanced, more international routes should be developed and Shantou's accessibility and capability of stimulating the development of surrounding areas should be continuously expanded.
