On April 9, President of the Republic of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh sent a letter to Group Chairman Li Jianhong, extending his appreciation for China Merchants Group's contribution in Djibouti's epidemic prevention and control.

The letter stated that China Merchants Group has put itself in Djibouti's position during this time of difficulty and played a critical role in ensuring that medical supplies were delivered to Djibouti as swiftly as possible. The letter pointed out that, since 2012, Djibouti's strategic partnership with China Merchants Group has achieved fruitful results with world-class infrastructure jointly built, including Doraleh MultiPurpose Port and Djibouti International Free Trade Zone. The timely assistance and support has demonstrated our profound friendship and that China Merchants Group is a true friend who shares weal and woe. The letter also stressed that the epidemic would not affect the development of the cooperation between the two parties as well as Djibouti's confidence in China Merchants Group.

At the end of March, the Djibouti government sent out a request for medical supplies. China Merchants Charitable Foundation responded promptly and donated virus testing equipment, PPE protective clothing, infrared thermometers and other urgently needed anti-epidemic materials with a total value of approximately USD 280,000 to the Djibouti government and local enterprises. On April 7, all the supplies arrived in Djibouti.
