2022-03-04
A freight train loaded with anti-virus supplies in 18 containers left Shenzhen on March 2 for Hong Kong, in the central authorities' efforts to help Hong Kong combat the pandemic.
The train carried 1.1 million virus test kits and 20,000 pieces of protective clothing and other medical supplies. The materials will be distributed to the anti-epidemic front on the same day.
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong freight train runs once a day at the current stage, and its frequency may be increased according to the needs of Hong Kong. A single train trip takes 35 minutes.
Sinotrans, CMG's major logistics arm, majorly led and run the freight train. The route was newly reopened only after it had run from 1962 to 2008 during which time fresh food were transported from mainland cities to Hong Kong on a daily basis.
