On April 8, a naming ceremony was held at China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry's Haimen base for the country's first independently designed and built 180,000 m³ liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. The vessel, named "CELSIUS GEORGETOWN," was christened by Caroline Baier Jensen, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer of Celsius Group, who served as the ship's godmother.
With an overall length of 298.8 meters and a beam of 48 meters, the vessel features a dual-fuel low-speed propulsion system and offers low boil-off rates and enhanced environmental performance. The vessel is the largest LNG carrier ever built in China and represents a major breakthrough for the country's shipbuilding industry in large-scale clean-energy vessel construction. It was ordered by Denmark's Celsius Group. Construction began in October 2023, and sea trials were successfully completed, including gas tests and navigation performance trials.
The delivery of this vessel marks a significant milestone for China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry, establishing its position among the world's key builders of large-scale LNG carriers.
